Reviewer Comments: I found many humorous sections in the book and was entertained by this. There was also the serious aspects of the book, the blackmail, murder and blood lust. Ms Rowan has used humor to defuse some aspects, or so I felt as I read. The (black) humor is what a reader might expect if they were in the same circumstances.
Sarah Dearly is still an angry woman. She has been turned into a vampire and worse yet a nightwalker. Her nightwalker only appears when she takes off her amulet, a golden necklace. Sarah is passionately in love with a married man and has an affair with him even though he lives in the same house as his wife. Sarah is being blackmailed and must turn an injured man into a vampire. She is called Slayer of Slayers and often uses that to frighten the vampire slayers.
On her mission, Sarah has to deal with the over protective Red Devil, Gideon Chase and her lover Thierry, from whom she has theoretically separated. Thierry’s wife wants Sarah to find the Red Devil so she can have an affair with him. Gideon wants her blood and her body. There is more that I could add but I don’t want to spoil too much of the story especially for fans of Sarah.
This story has many threads and, at times, I had a little difficulty in keeping all the parts together as this was the fifth book in the series and I felt a little lost. For readers, this would be one of those series that need to be read from the beginning. It does not add to the reading experience for the reader if they are lost. I was able to obtain some knowledge from some details and could thread together aspects of the story.
For me another feature is the fact that I struggle with the idea that the two main characters were essentially having an affair regardless of how long, in this case a hundred years and how in love they are, even though this happens all the time in real life. This story is definitely on for the fans.
